F=ma Problem Series

Students use the classical mechanics they have learned to solve the types of problems that appear on the F=ma exam, learning and mastering valuable problem solving techniques in each class. This course both analyzes problems from past exams and has many original problems not available elsewhere. We’ll also cover strategies for taking the test, and students will have an opportunity to complete a practice F=ma test featuring exclusive problems written by our esteemed AoPS curriculum team.

Who Should Take?

This course is designed for students who have already taken a full course in mechanics and are familiar with Newton’s laws, gravity, energy, momentum, angular momentum, and the basics of fluids. Our Scholars High School Physics 1: Mechanics curriculum provides a strong foundation for this course. If a student has already passed the F=ma exam, the qualifying test for USAPhO, they’ll want to take our PhysicsWOOT course instead.

Lessons

1 1D Kinematics
2 2D Kinematics and Vectors
3 Newton's Laws
4 Momentum and Energy
5 Collisions
6 Data Analysis
7 Rotational Motion
8 Orbital Mechanics
9 Statics I - Balancing Forces and Torques
10 Statics II - Fluids and Material Properties
11 Oscillations
12 Dimensional Analysis

I really enjoyed the challenge, and for some parts, I didn't want to stop practicing. The problems that were hard gave me a new sort of challenge that I hadn't had before. Sometimes I didn't understand some things, but I asked some questions and it cleared it up so that I understood. I really like my teachers, and I liked the fact that I was able to ask questions and get them answered, whether I didn't understand something or whether I had a question concerning the concept. I really enjoyed this class!
