Special AIME Problem Seminar B

This class is a special 5-hour weekend seminar to prepare for the AIME, which is the second in the series of tests used to determine the United States team at the International Math Olympiad. Many top colleges also request AIME scores as part of the college application process. In this course, students learn problem solving strategies and test-taking tactics relevant to the AIME. The course also includes a practice AIME test.

Who Should Take?

This class is appropriate for students who are hoping to pass the AIME. If a student already consistently scores above 10 on the AIME, this class is probably not necessary, and if a student is unlikely to answer more than 1 or 2 questions correctly, then that student should start with some of our Introduction series of classes. The material for this class is distinct from the Special AIME Problem Seminar A.

Lessons

1 Algebra and Counting
2 Number Theory and Geometry

The problems covered did a good job of illustrating common techniques. The explanations were very clear. I especially enjoyed how rigorous the solutions given were (e.g. the instructor would ask us to prove that the locus in a certain case is a circle rather than just telling us it is a circle). Thanks to this course, I've seen large improvements in my AIME problem solving ability, especially in counting and probability and geometry.
